• iPhone: understanding field crash reports: unrecognized selector?

  Hi all, A user of my app out in the field seems to having bad crash-at-app-start issues. I got him to send me the .crash files from his PC. After "symbolicating" them according to this article, I get what looks from the stack like a unrecognized selector fail. But the top line of code corresponding to my process is an unambiguous message send that gets executed hundreds of times without issue in my app normally. Needless to say, I never repro this issue myself. Can the crash report lie? Could this stack indicate anything besides unrecognized selector? Thanks for any insight. • Manipulating jQuery to retrieve the onclick function of an item which lies directly below the curren

  First off, I want to thank you for looking into my question as I really do appreciate your time. I've built a list of items using php by having a foreach loop cycle through an associative array printing the array data as parameters of an onclick function call and gives each item it cycles through an ID of $thecount. All items retrieved have the same parent div and calls the very same onclick function, only with 11 different parameters. My question is how do I go about calling the onClick("function();") of an item directly below the current focus, making it the new focus, only without a physical click? If this is confusing to you whatsoever, I'm essentially building a dynamic playlist, and I've already implemented the listener for when the player's current item has finished playing, Now I'm having trouble grasping how I'd go about having the next item in the list become the new focus while also calling it's specific onClick() function once the player returns that it has finished with the current file. All without any user interaction besides the initial play call. If it helps I'm using the most recent release of Longtails' JW Player and once again thank you very much for your time!

• Flex: embedded fonts not being applied correctly in Label and DataGrid

  Folks, I am observing a problem with how an embedded font is applied to certain Flex components, namely mx:Label and mx:DataGrid. I have a CSS that declares three variations on an embedded font as follows: @font-face { src:url("buttons.swf"); font-family: "Arial"; } @font-face { src:url("buttons.swf"); font-family: "Arial"; font-weight: bold; } @font-face { src:url("buttons.swf"); font-family: "Arial"; font-style: italic; } And in the style declaration for Label and DataGrid, I have: Label { fontFamily: "Arial"; fontSize: 11; fontFamily: LucidaSans; } and DataGrid { fontFamily: "Arial"; height: 16; } (I've snipped some stuff from both style rules, so if you think there's something that may be causing a conflict I can certainly post the entire definition. It's mostly color, line and padding stuff for the DataGrid.) The problem that is for both Label and cells in the DataGrid the text is being rendered as sort of a times new roman font. The headers in the DataGrid are fine, just the text in the cells is wonky. All other components use the correct font as defined in the CSS/SWF. Any ideas why this is happening?

• Is there a way to do 'correct' arithmetical rounding in .NET? / C#

  I'm trying to round a number to it's first decimal place and, considering the different MidpointRounding options, that seems to work well. A problem arises though when that number has sunsequent decimal places that would arithmetically affect the rounding. An example: With 0.1, 0.11..0.19 and 0.141..0.44 it works: Math.Round(0.1, 1) == 0.1 Math.Round(0.11, 1) == 0.1 Math.Round(0.14, 1) == 0.1 Math.Round(0.15, 1) == 0.2 Math.Round(0.141, 1) == 0.1 But with 0.141..0.149 it always returns 0.1, although 0.146..0.149 should round to 0.2: Math.Round(0.145, 1, MidpointRounding.AwayFromZero) == 0.1 Math.Round(0.146, 1, MidpointRounding.AwayFromZero) == 0.1 Math.Round(0.146, 1, MidpointRounding.ToEven) == 0.1 Math.Round(0.146M, 1, MidpointRounding.ToEven) == 0.1M Math.Round(0.146M, 1, MidpointRounding.AwayFromZero) == 0.1M I tried to come up with a function that addresses this problem, and it works well for this case, but of course it glamorously fails if you try to round i.e. 0.144449 to it's first decimal digit (which should be 0.2, but results 0.1.) • al32utf8 in oracle and SQL Server and DB2 pulling data

  I have a non-utf8 oracle database running on 11.1.0.7. We need to support greek characters. So we have two options: use nvarchar, nclob fields for those fields that need greek (it is not all fields). We have tested this and gotten it to work with java coding. convert Oracle to AL32UTF8 database. I am not asking how to do this. I got this from the Oracle Site/Oracle Support. I know what is involved, lossy data, etc, increasing the size of the database. My question is we have users to our system that connect to our database with database links but work on SQL Server and IBM DB2 databases. I do not have access to those databases and I do not have experience with them. If they are not in UTF-8 databases what happens when they pull UTF8 data? I would assume that English/Ascii characters are fine and the greek will end up as junk data. I also ran Oracle Character set scanner (oracle command line utility you use to get info about the affects of a character set conversion). It says that my database will crease in sizez by about 20%. Does this have an affect on users with 3rd party databases? These are customers of our data and there is a limit to how much access I can have to them to run tests. Any information you have would be welcome.

  I am attempting to encode video using libavcodec/libavformat. I'm trying to change the standard output-example.c from ffmpeg source. The AVI file is created on the disk, but the only sound is encoded. I tried adding a lot of options for x264 from here. All the other codecs works fine, mpeg2, mpeg4, mjpeg, xvid. In addition to specifying the parameters x264, I also set the codec to AVOutputFormat structure. That's all I've done. • Count all lists of adjacent nodes stored in an array.

  There are many naive approaches to this problem, but I'm looking for a good solution. Here is the problem (will be implemented in Java): You have a function foo(int a, int b) that returns true if 'a' is "adjacent" to 'b' and false if 'a' is not adjacent to 'b'. You have an array such as this [1,4,5,9,3,2,6,15,89,11,24], but in reality has a very long length, like 120, and will be repeated over and over (its a genetic algorithm fitness function) which is why efficiency is important. I want a function that returns the length of each possible 'list' of adjacencies in the array, but not including the 'lists' which simply subsets of a larger list. For example, if foo(1,4) - true, foo(4,5) - true, foo(5,9)- false, foo(9,3) & foo(3,2) & foo(2,6), foo(6,15) - true, then there are 'lists' (1,4,5) and (9,3,2,6), so length 3 and 4. I don't want it to return (3,2,6), though, because this is simply a subset of 9,3,2,6. Thanks.

  the problem set asks us to create a half pyramid using hashes. Here is a link to an image of how it should look- I get the idea and have written the program until printing the spaces (which I have replaced by "_" just so that I can test the first half of it. However, when I try to run my program, it doesn't go beyond the do-while loop. In other words, it keeps asking me for the height of the pyramid and does not seem to run the for loop at all. I've tried multiple approaches but this problem seems to persist. Any help would be appreciated! • Crash on iOS when system purges memory and closes a UIViewController

  My application is crashing when one of the views is purged from memory because of low-memory condition. At least this is what I understand from the crashlog. It happens on numerous screens but only when opening a Facebook dialog (using the Facebook SDK). Basically, looks like the system sometimes runs out of memory when we need to present a Facebook dialog (e.g. to let user post something on the Facebook timeline). So I don't believe this is caused by the application. I guess that when the phone is not restarted for some time there are applications running in the background and when using Facebook SDK the memory becomes a problem and the system tries to recover the memory from random applications, including my application. My question is, how can I prevent this crash from happening? How should I handle unloadViewForced on a view controller to make the app more robust in low-memory conditions? And lastly, am I right that this crashlog suggests the crash occurred because the system tried to free memory and my application didn't handle it properly? Any help greatly appreciated.

• Convert float to decimal in Informix

  I have a table with a column of type decimal. There is a ESQL/C structure that represents the table. It has a member of type decimal. I also have a normal C structure for equivalent for the same table. The type of the above mentioned field is a float. Since we use memcpy to copy data to and from ESQL/C structure to C structure, there is an issue with decimal to float conversion. When I searched the Informix ESQL/C Programmer's manual, I couldn't find any function that can do this. Google search led me to the deccvflt() function. This function converts from a float to a decimal type. Though I couldn't find this function listed in the manual, I see the declarations in decimal.h. Are these functions still recommended to be used? Alternatively, I was also thinking about using the decimal type in the C structure also, as it happens to be a C structure. • MySQL ORDER BY DESC is fast but ASC is very slow

  Hello, I'm completely stumped on this one. For some reason when I sort this query by DESC it's super fast, but if sorted by ASC it's extremely slow. • How to make a custom NSFormatter work correctly on Snow Leopard?

  I have a custom NSFormatter attached to several NSTextFields who's only purpose is to uppercase the characters as they are typed into field. The entire code for my formatter is included below. The stringForObjectValue() and getObjectValue() implementations are no-ops and taken pretty much directly out of Apple's documentation. I'm using the isPartialStringValid() method to return an uppercase version of the string. This code works correctly in 10.4 and 10.5. When I run it on 10.6, I get "strange" behaviour where text fields aren't always render the characters that are typed and sometimes are just displaying garbage. I've tried enabling NSZombie detection and running under Instruments but nothing was reported. • What headaches should I expect from using Trac?

  No tool is perfect, and I'm about to start several long-term projects using Trac, and wanted a heads up of the kinds of problems I may or may not experience with it. In other words, Trac meets my needs in the short term, and I've already made the decision to use it, but I want to know what to expect down the road. I am not looking for: "Use product X instead of Trac because..." answers. "Trac is great because..." answers. A comparison to any other specific system. "Trac doesn't support Feature X" answers. I can read the feature list too, thank you very much. I am looking for: "Feature X does not behave as expected..." "Trac behaves oddly when..." "Trac doesn't fully support..." "Trac itself has a known bug that will likely never be fixed..." And especially "Trac can't handle..." etc So, what Trac-induced headaches do I have to look forward to? For future reference, this question was asked while Trac v0.11 was the latest stable release.

  Hi, I need serious help building two Regex statements for a project. The software we're using ONLY accepts Regex for validation. I need one that fires for any date <4/1/2009 and a second that fires for any date <10/1/2009 My co-worker gave me the following code to check for <=10/01/2010, but it checks leap years and all that stuff. • Capturing time intervals when somebody was online? How would you impement this feature?

  Hello, Our aim is to build timelines saying about periods of time when user was online. (It really doesn't matter what user we are talking about and where he was online) To get information about onliners we can call API method, someservice.com/api/?call=whoIsOnline whoIsOnline method will give us a list of users currently online. But there is no API method to get information about who IS NOT online. So, we should build our timelines using information we got from whoIsOnline. Of course there will be a measurement error (we can't track information in realtime). Let's suppose that we will call whoIsOnline method every 2 minutes (yes, we will run our script by cron every 2 minutes). For example, calling whoIsOnline at 08:00 will return Peter_id Michal_id Andy_id calling whoIsOnline at 08:02 will return Michael_id Andy_id George_id As you can see, Peter has gone offline, but we have new onliner - George. Available instruments are Db(MySQL) / text files / key-value storage (Redis/memcache); feel free to choose any of them (or even all of them). So, we have to get information like this George_id was online... 12 May: 08:02-08:30, 12:40-12:46, 20:14-22:36 11 May: 09:10-12:30, 21:45-23:00 10 May: was not online And now question... How would you store information to implement such timelines? How would you query/calculate information about periods of time when user was online? Additional information.. You cannot update information about offline users, only users who are "currently" online. Solution should be flexible: timeline information could be represented relating to any timezone. We should keep information only for last 7 days. Every user seen online is automatically getting his own identifier in our database.
